Do's and Don'ts
_______________________________________________________________

Do:

-

Report the accident to the police immediately, even if the police did not come to the scene
- Exchange insurance and contact information
-

Get names, addresses and telephone numbers of all scene witnesses
-

Go to the emergency room or get medical care as soon as possible. If you need help finding and in making arrangements to pay a good doctor, contact us immediately
-

Write down all symptoms (changes in your physical or mental pre-accident status) and bring this to your doctor or with you to our office. A rear end whiplash can cause a concussion without a direct blow to the head. Sometimes headaches, fatigue, dizziness, ringing in the ears or other unusual symptoms will result
-

Take photos of injuries/bruises and damage to both vehicles if possible
-

Call us at 713.464.6461, email us or submit your case immediately for free consultation
- Read our Frequently Asked Questions section
-

Use your PIP, health or worker's compensation insurance if you have coverage
-

Follow all of your doctor's orders and return for an office visit as instructed (delays and gaps in treatment hurt your case)
-

Make arrangements for alternative transportation or let us help you do so
-

Bring to our office expense receipts, invoices, insurance policies, accident report or information exchange, photos or film, and all other accident related documents
- Let us fight any ticket issued to you

Don't:

-

Assume any insurance adjuster is on your side (they want your signed release as cheaply as possible)
- Go to work if your doctor takes you off work
-

Exaggerate your medical symptoms, as it will destroy your credibility and your case
-

Perform any activities beyond what you doctor advises (light duty means light duty)
- Give a recorded statement without adequate preparation by us
-

Sign a release for your medical or wage information and records to be given to the insurance company
-

Sign or endorse any insurance checks or documents without legal counsel
-

Talk any further with the adjuster until contacting us at 713.464.6461, by email, or by our case submission form for a free consultation
- Delay seeking medical treatment
-

Call your health insurance company to alert them that you have been in an accident (some will wrongly deny coverage)
-

Sign a representation agreement with another lawyer without first consulting with us
-

Represent yourself without contacting us at 713.464.6461, by email, or by our case submission form for a free consultation
-

Assume that recent changes in your body are not related to the accident (you are not a doctor)
-

Believe all you might hear about the value of your case. Every case stands on its own merits. Anyone who tells you what your case is worth without final knowledge of all relevant fault, medical and financial details after healing is only guessing or trying to sell you
